Dr. István Páczelt was born in 1939. He graduated in mechanical engineering from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Heavy Industry in 1962. Positions: teaching assistant (1962-66), post-graduate student (PhD student) at the Leningrad Technical University (1966-69), assistant professor (1969-71), associate professor (1971-83), professor (1983-2009), Professor Emeritus (2009- ), head of the Department of Mechanics (1993-2003), deputy dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (1982-83), dean of the Faculty (1983-94), general vice-rector (2000-04), head of the Numerical Mechanics Research Group of the University of Miskolc of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1997-2006), head of the Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering (1994-2002), head of the István Sályi Doctoral School of Mechanical Engineering (2002-09). Candidate of Technical Sciences (1970), Doctor of Technical Sciences (1982), Corresponding Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1987), Full Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1995). Specialties: numerical mechanics, elasticity, finite element method, contact problems, optimization of structures. Holder of numerous awards, e.g. Széchenyi Prize (1999), Middle Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (2009).
