Dr. Károly Jármai graduated from the University of Miskolc in 1978 and received his PhD (dr.univ.) in 1979. He teaches design and optimization of steel structures, welded structures, composite structures in Hungarian and English to foreign students. His research interests include structural optimization, mathematical programming techniques and sandwich structures. He wrote his CSc. (PhD) dissertation at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1988 and habilitated (dr.habil.) in Miskolc in 1995. He received his Doctorate in Engineering Sciences (DSc.) in 1995. Co-author of five books in English and seven in Hungarian, editor of 17 conference publications. He has published more than 795 technical papers, lecture notes, textbook chapters and conference presentations. He has some 1264 independent citations. He is a founding member of the International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ISSMO), Vice-Chair of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) Committee XV and Chair of its Sub-Committee XV-F. He was Vice-Rector for Strategy and Research at the University from 2013 to 2017. He holds an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Košice, Slovakia. Head of the Centre of Excellence for Innovative Automotive, Mechanical and Energy Engineering Design and Technologies since 2011.
